Summary

Responsibilities*

In past years this ensemble has performed a variety of gamelan musics and in different formats including instrumental-only, as accompaniment to dances and theater, and with shadow puppets. The ensemble has also performed contemporary works with the addition of other instruments. 


Required Qualifications*

SMTD seeks applicants qualified to teach a two-semester ensemble course teaching Javanese gamelan. Students of the course include undergraduate music majors and non-majors and graduate students. In addition to being able to teach Javanese gamelan ensemble independently, the successful candidate should possess good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to organize at least one recital/concert, the energy and creativity to promote the ensemble on campus, and the requisite maturity to supervise one musicology Graduate Student Instructor.
