Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Instructional Technology, Foundations, and Secondary Education department within the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), seeks an outstanding faculty member for a nine-month non-tenure track position in the Workforce Learning and Development program beginning Fall 2024.
This position will advise and teach fully online asynchronous classes in the undergraduate Workforce Learning and Development program and will be required to:
  • Design, develop, and teach online courses in the Workforce Learning and Development program, as well as teach Master level Instructional Technology online courses.
  • Provide outreach to the local and extended community.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Assist in ongoing program revision and assessment.
  • Provide leadership and service to the program, department, WCE, UNCW, state and the profession (active participation in regional/state/national/international associations)
  • Provide service to area businesses.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in Workforce Education, Adult Learning, Instructional Technology, or a closely related field. Applicants who are ABD for the terminal degree may be considered depending on the expected completion date.
  • Demonstrated expertise in areas such as online and distance learning,
  • Experience teaching students with a range of occupational backgrounds including military or private business
  • Demonstrate a track record of establishing and maintaining partnerships
  • Work experience in K-12 or business setting
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Experience in corporate, government, or consulting settings
  • Experience teaching online in asynchronous environments

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education prepares educators/professionals for leadership positions in instructional technology and secondary education. Our commitment is to the development of highly competent professionals to serve in educational leadership roles.
Our secondary education program has strong alliances with the other colleges in the related secondary subject matters of mathematics, science, English, social sciences, foreign languages, physical education/health and music. In addition, our MIT program has strong ties with Computer Science, Computer Science and Information Systems and Communication Studies. Each allied department has a role in providing content related courses and program guidance.

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed ) is a rapidly growing college with over 65 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership.
