Position Overview

The School of Communication seeks a Lecturer to teach seven courses per year and supervise or co-supervise the PRactice, the student-run public relations firm associated with the award-winning student chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSSA). This will include 2 sections of COMM 3188: The PR Experience, which is integral to the PRactice. Other course assignments may include (but will not be limited to) COMM 2321: Writing for Strategic Communication, COMM 3334: Strategic Message Design, and COMM 4337: Public Communication Campaigns.

Performance Objectives

• Ensure curriculum implementation and course preparation in accordance with school standards.
• Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
• Prepare homework and exams; evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learning.
• Meet scheduled classes and office hours in accordance with university policy.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress; submit final grade rosters in accordance with established university deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA.
• Train and supervise students to engage in public relations work within an agency setting.
• Advise a board of student leaders who oversee the PRactice.
• Work with PRSSA’s faculty supervisor to promote a strong relationship between the PRactice and PRSSA.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required : Master's degree in Journalism, Communication, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Firm understanding of public speaking and writing, or business and public relations; successful candidate must be proficient in the field of public relations and strategic communication.

Desired : Demonstrated skill as an instructor, especially in undergraduate courses. Experience teaching public relations. The ability to incorporate media technologies into the instructional experience.
