Job Description
As one of the nation's top schools of social work, Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) is dedicated to the pursuit of inclusive excellence in education, research, and evidence-based practice to advance social, racial, gender, and economic justice and solve the most pressing societal problems of the 21st century. We invite applications for a full-time (FT) salaried lecturer position. The FT lecturer will teach 18 credits (6 courses total) in the MSW program across the fall and spring semesters (additional courses may be taught in the summers for additional, over-base compensation). They will advise 10 to 12 in-field students (or its equivalent), as well as read admissions applications for an average time commitment of approximately 100 hours. Teaching load will include foundation and advanced courses in Macro Social Work Practice with content on community engagement and organization, organizational leadership and administration, and policy advocacy with a strong racial and social justice emphasis. Lecturers may teach across SSW's platforms, including the Charles River Campus Program, the Off-Campus Program, and the Online Program. In the Online Program, the FT Lecturer may serve as course instructor (2 or 3 credits per course) and/or facilitator (1.5 credits per section).
Required Skills
Requirements:

  • Must hold an MSW degree; PhD preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience as a social work practitioner in Macro Practice (large system) positions.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching and training skills appropriate to the MSW curriculum, which include justice-focused activities in human behavior, racial equity, and social work ethics
  • Experience teaching about equity, inclusion, and strategies for disrupting structural inequities including racism and heteropatriarchy
  • Experience working with ethnically, racially and gender-diverse, and other diverse populations and students.
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive teaching methods.

FT Lecturers are not required to serve on standing committees or attend faculty meetings. Over-base compensation for additional teaching, advising, or other service duties may be possible and would be arranged individually per the annual contract.
