Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time lecturer position to teach in its new Journalism and Sports Media major beginning August 2024.
 
A key element of the new major is teaching the distinction and similarities between sports journalism and sports media, in broadcast and multimedia venues, with the ideal candidate having graduate education and/or work experience in both. The candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate introductory courses in journalism or media practice and courses based on their expertise. Potential course topics could include but are not limited to sports video production, esports, livestreaming, sports analysis, media writing, play-by-play, and the practice and ethics of traditional and social media. Ideal candidates should also be able to help maintain student extracurricular opportunities and lead collaboration with local and regional sports and media organizations. Completion of at least 18 credits of graduate coursework in Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Arts, or a related field by the date of appointment, and/or substantial professional experience, is required.
 
The Department of Communication, Media and Culture is one of Coastal Carolina University’s largest departments, serving over 450 students in Communication and Journalism & Sports Media majors; 100 students in communication, journalism, and health communication minors; and 25 graduate students in its Master of Arts program. Students contribute to student-run media and to media in the University’s Athletics programs and local community.
