Lecturer of Spanish

The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time lecturer of Spanish to begin August 2024. The successful candidate will be able to teach all levels of Spanish language as well as occasional English-language courses in our Intercultural Studies program. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability to teach in one or more of the following areas: Spanish for Healthcare, Spanish for the Professions, Spanish/English Translation/Interpretation, and/or world language teacher training. Strong interest in community engagement or medical missions is highly desirable. The teaching load for this position is 30 credits per year (approximately equivalent to a 5-5 load).

Candidates must have at least a master’s degree in Spanish language, literature, or culture or a closely related discipline, possess near-native fluency in Spanish, and demonstrate effective teaching in undergraduate courses. Additionally, their application materials should provide evidence of the candidate’s ability to contribute to a multi-language department that values a variety of perspectives.
The Spanish-language program at Coastal Carolina encompasses a vibrant community both on and off campus. Our students pursue minors in Spanish, Languages and Intercultural Studies, and Spanish for Health Professions. The latter in particular has grown rapidly; it provides students with internship opportunities and enhances relationships with the wider community. Our students also have two major options to choose from: the B.A. in Languages and Intercultural Studies Multiple Languages Concentration and the B.A. in Hispanic Studies Concentration in the Languages and Intercultural Studies program. Students can choose to focus their upper-division coursework on Spanish language and/or intensify their knowledge of Hispanic cultures. The program prepares students for working with Spanish-speaking clients, colleagues, and employers in the U.S. and abroad. Finally, we are expanding our programming to include a B.A. in Spanish education and a graduate certificate in Spanish for Healthcare and Social Services Professions.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, a teaching portfolio, and transcripts of all graduate work (unofficial transcripts acceptable) at: http://jobs.coastal.edu . Screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
