Job Summary:

The Philosophy and Religious Studies Department in the School of Liberal Arts at Marist College invites applications for a Lecturer of Philosophy to begin in August 2024. Candidates should be able to teach undergraduate philosophy courses at all levels, including Introduction to Philosophy. AOS is open but AOC must include at least one of the following: non-Western philosophy, contemporary ethical theory, history of philosophy, philosophy of law, philosophy of race, and empirical moral psychology. The Department already has coverage in metaphysics & epistemology, aesthetics, philosophy of mind, contemporary Continental philosophy, modern philosophy, social and political philosophy, and logic. Candidates will teach our First Year Seminar course regularly, and candidates will have opportunities to teach courses in our Honors Program. A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree in Philosophy. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness at the college level is required.

Essential Functions:

The teaching load will be 4-4 with a mix of introductory and advanced courses. Lecturers need to be active in their professional field, and participate regularly in service activities for our students, Marist College, and the community.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Philosophy.

    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

The School of Liberal Arts includes 50 full-time faculty and over 75 part-time faculty. The School of Liberal Arts includes departments in English, history, modern languages, philosophy & religious studies, and political science, and many interdisciplinary programs such as American Studies, African Diaspora Studies, and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. In addition, the ABA approved Paralegal Studies Program and the Pre-Law Program are part of the School of Liberal Arts.
