Lecturer of Mathematics

Description

The College of Natural and Applied Sciences at the University of Houston-Victoria is accepting applications for Lecturer of Mathematics. The appointment is full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-accruing, and renewable annually. Candidates must have a substantial interest in lower-level curriculum development.

Lecturers work alongside other faculty in teaching, developing, assessing, and supporting courses in the department. The teaching load will be four courses each long semester (fall and spring). Summer teaching is not guaranteed. Lecturers are also required to maintain additional hours outside the classroom to provide assistance to students.

  • Teach 12 hours per semester of undergraduate level courses:
    • College Algebra,
    • Finite Math,
    • Contemporary Math,
    • College Algebra Lab,
    • Finite Math Lab,
    • and Contemporary Math Lab.
  • Participate in core curriculum program development and assessment.  
  • Work cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences and the Chair of the Division.
  • Work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.

The appointment is for a nine-month, non-tenure track position. The successful candidate will begin employment in the fall of 2024.

Required qualifications: An MS in mathematics or a closely related field with substantial coursework in mathematics (at least 18 credit hours of graduate mathematics courses) is required prior to the start of the appointment. Candidates should have a record of success in innovative teaching.

Preferred Qualifications: We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a dedicated commitment to teaching excellence and student success at the university level, particularly with a focus on freshman students. Ideal candidates will possess experience in effectively addressing the learning needs of students with knowledge gaps, proficiency in conducting co-requisite support courses, and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
