Job Details
The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time lecturer of Chinese to begin August 2024. The successful candidate will teach elementary and intermediate Chinese language courses as well as introductory courses in Intercultural Studies that fulfill general education requirements in the humanities. There may be occasional opportunities to teach upper-level Chinese language courses or cultural courses in English. The teaching load is 30 credits per year (approximately equivalent to a 5-5 load). The lecturer will collaborate with the coordinator of the Chinese program on curricula and on the organization of extracurricular activities.
Candidates must have at least a Master’s Degree in Chinese, Asian Studies, or a closely related field; possess near-native fluency in Chinese; and demonstrate effective teaching in undergraduate courses. Additionally, their application materials should provide evidence of the candidate’s ability to contribute to a multi-language departmental culture that values a variety of perspectives. Since its creation in 2018, the Chinese program has grown significantly; a new minor in Chinese Studies was established in 2021. The program also contributes to the Languages and Intercultural Studies major and minor curricula, as well as to the Asian Studies minor. Students in the Chinese program have opportunities to enhance their learning via study abroad, often supported via prestigious scholarships, including the Chinese Government Scholarship and the Moe Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program.
