Position Description:

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at The University of Iowa invites applications for instructional-track faculty positions at the rank of Lecturer beginning August 2024. These positions are renewable in one-year increments for the first three years, and renewable thereafter in three-year increments. Opportunities for advancement to associate professor of instruction (and, subsequently, professor of instruction) are available after the first six years, renewable in 5-year increments. As faculty members, Lecturers participate in departmental governance with voting rights. Review of applications begins October 2 and will continue until the positions are filled. The positions begin August 2024. The University of Iowa is a leading public university located in Iowa City , a UNESCO City of Literature with a high quality of life. These faculty positions continue an extended period of departmental investment, highlighted most prominently by the recent completion of a new Psychological and Brain Sciences Building.


Applications are sought from candidates with outstanding undergraduate teaching skills. We are primarily interested in individuals who can teach courses in clinical psychology or behavioral neuroscience, but we will also consider candidates with expertise in social, developmental, or cognitive psychology. Candidates must have experience teaching at the post-secondary level and must able to teach elementary psychology and a basic undergraduate course on research methods and data analysis. In addition to teaching introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses, instructional-track faculty are expected to mentor undergraduate students, develop new curricula and experiential learning opportunities, and engage in other professional activities and service. Applicants must have a PhD in psychology or a related field in-hand by August 21, 2024 to be qualified for the position.


Evaluation of each candidate’s qualifications will be based on educational and work experiences as described in the letter of interest, accomplishments as addressed in the CV and teaching statement, evidence of effective teaching (e.g., student evaluations, example syllabi, handbooks), and information provided by professional references.
