Position Summary
The School of Music at UNC Greensboro welcomes applications for a 2-year, renewable Lecturer
position in music theory and aural skills beginning in Fall 2024. We invite applicants who are teacher-scholars actively engaged in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and access in their teaching. The position centers on teaching music theory and aural skills courses in the undergraduate curriculum. Candidates with expertise in world music, jazz, blues, rap, hip-hop, musical theatre, pop, rock, gospel, and related musical styles are of particular interest. Theorists with additional experience in areas such as entrepreneurship, technology, or composition are also encouraged to apply. Graduate courses may be assigned based on the applicant’s areas of expertise. The position start date is August 1, 2024.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success teaching music theory at the college/university level and experience implementing the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching.
  • Applicants with ABD status in a doctoral music program with substantial coursework in graduate-level music theory will be considered, but the hire must have a doctoral degree in hand by August 1, 2024.

  • A deep, sustained, and demonstrated commitment to music theory pedagogy; a colleague who can broaden our current course offerings and collaborate with existing faculty to address changing curricular needs; a strong rapport with students; an ability to connect the world of music theory to a wide range of musical pursuits.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
