The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources (RSENR) at the University of Vermont (UVM) welcomes applicants for a permanent, full-time, 9-month Lecturer position in Environmental Policy. We seek a new faculty member with applied skills relevant to environmental policy (for example, planning and policy analysis, public engagement, conflict management, collaborative planning and management). Substantive areas of interest include climate change, sustainability, natural resource management, or pollution/toxics and risk management. Applicants should have a passion and capacity for delivering high-quality teaching.
RSENR is a cross-disciplinary school, with 5 major programs and 4 minors and 1100 current undergraduate students. All students take a core curriculum designed to cultivate skills and knowledge central to the study of natural resources and environment, and integrating the natural and social sciences to foster a deeper understanding of complex environmental issues. We have a growing Program in Sustainability, Ecology and Policy focused on educating the next generation of professionals to address environmental policy issues.
Position: Lecturer, Environmental Policy. Anticipated start date August 19, 2024.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in environmental studies/science, natural resources, sustainability studies/science, public policy, public affairs, public admininstration, political science, planning, or related discipline. Demonstrated passion for and excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Ability to address questions about environmental and social justice and to work in an interdisciplinary program.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include participation in the Unit’s teaching, advising, mentoring and service activities. The successful candidate will be expected to:
•Instruction (0.85 FTE): Teach courses such as NR 2040: Social Processes & the Environment, NR 2530 Introduction to Environmental Policy, NR 3050 Ecosystem Management: Integrating Science, Society & Policy, as well as courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
•Advising/Mentoring (0.1 FTE) Advise undergraduate students in the Sustainability, Ecology and Policy program.
•Service (0.05 FTE): Be an active member of the RSENR faculty community, including membership on RSENR or UVM committees.
Rank and Salary: Full-time, 9-month appointment. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a permanent lecturer position with multi-year renewable contracts with guaranteed 1.0 FTE. Additional summer salary is possible through teaching online courses.
