The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Swarthmore College invites applications for a full-time position as Lecturer in Arabic Language, beginning in August 2024. The position combines (co)teaching Modern Standard Arabic across all proficiency levels, as well as additional responsibilities such as curriculum development, administering student placement examinations, and assistance with extracurricular activities. The initial appointment is for one year with an opportunity for renewal contingent upon a successful review. 

The Arabic program is a vibrant component of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, offering students four years of rigorous Arabic language instruction, courses in Arabic literature, film, and culture, and numerous co-curricular and study abroad opportunities.

Candidates should possess an M.A. in Arabic language or a related field. Applicants are required to demonstrate a proven track record of excellence in teaching Arabic as a foreign language, coupled with a contemporary understanding of second language acquisition teaching methodologies. The ideal candidate should display proficiency as a co-teacher, possess extensive experience in effectively integrating technology into the classroom setting, and be fluent in both English and Arabic. Candidates who are certified Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) testers are particularly encouraged to apply.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
