Job Description

The Department of Human Development, Family Science, and Counseling in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track, Lecturer II / Teaching Assistant Professor position in the Counselor Education Program to begin June 1, 2024. We seek a dynamic, student-centered, clinical faculty member with strong leadership skills to serve on our team. This position provides the following leadership opportunities: (a) coordinating clinical experiences for counseling students in practicum and internship, (b) providing leadership and daily support for the successful operation of the Downing Counseling Clinic as Director, and (c) providing clinical leadership for interns working in the Downing Clinic and at external clinical sites. As a member of the core faculty team, this position participates in Counselor Education Program and university service, teaches one clinical course per semester plus two internship sections in the summer, provides clinical supervision, and serves on graduate student committees. Depending on the successful candidate’s strengths and interests, additional responsibilities may include: (a) engaging in collaborative research in the Clinic, (b) providing academic advising, and (c) engaging in grant writing to support research in the Clinic.

Required Qualifications

Lecturer II – Master’s degree by August 2024 in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program or entered the counselor education field prior to 2013.

Teaching Assistant Professor – PhD by August 2024 in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program or entered the counselor education field prior to 2013.

The successful candidate must hold a current counseling license or be license-eligible for clinical mental health or marriage and family licensure in the State of Nevada.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have clinical experience and a strong commitment to the development of counselors in training. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound, learner-centered, graduate-level teaching skills. Collegiality is valued and expected. A campus presence during Clinic hours is expected. Experience with developmental, neuroscience-based, and/or trauma-informed counseling models is ideal. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to social justice, multicultural sensitivity, and advocacy for marginalized populations, aligning with the ACA cultural competencies.

Grants-in-aid

Program Information

The mission of the Counselor Education Program is to educate competent, culturally aware, ethical counselors who will provide exceptional services in both public and private settings to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse society. We offer three master’s specializations (marital, family, and couples counseling; school counseling; and clinical mental health counseling) https://www.unr.edu/education/academic-programs/degrees-and-programs/counseling-and-educational-psychology , and a PhD in Education/Counselor Education and Supervision https://www.unr.edu/degrees/education/ces-phd . All programs are CACREP accredited.
