Job Description

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology within the School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking applications for a 9-month non-tenure track Lecturer II or Teaching Assistant Professor for the Microbiology and Immunology, Bachelor of Science program.  Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate microbiology courses, student advisement, and student recruitment. Teaching responsibilities will include upper-level courses focused on Microbial Pathogenesis, Human Virology, Neglected Tropical Diseases as well as a course covering the Profession of Microbiology, and other courses as assigned. This position may also be responsible for developing and teaching new courses to expand laboratory course offerings in immunology and microbial physiology.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching and desire to positively impact the the development and education of new scientists. Other key skills include communication of complex ideas to a variety of learners, collegiality and ability to collaborate across schools and departments, ability to and enthusiasm for developing professionally and growing the educator's toolkit, and a commitment to the core values of UNR Med.

Required Qualifications

Lecturer II – Master’s Degree in microbial physiology or applied microbiology or related field.

Teaching Assistant Professor – Ph.D. in microbial physiology or applied microbiology or related field.

Candidates will be hired to the appropriate level based on education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with or interest in active learning approaches and development of laboratory exercises.
  • University level teaching experience.

Compensation Grade

Total Compensation

The total compensation package includes a competitive salary, moving allowance (if applicable), a rich retirement plan, health insurance options that include dental and vision, life insurance, thirty (30) days of sick leave provided upon start date and two (2) days of sick leave accrued per full month after the first year of service, two (2) days of annual leave accrued each full month, along with many other benefits. Department Information:

The Molecular Microbiology & Immunology (MMI) major is an exciting undergraduate degree program offered through collaboration between the College of Science  and School of Medicine . This special program offers undergraduate students a concentrated academic progression leading to a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Microbiology & Immunology. The major trains students in the fundamentals of modern microbiology, with an emphasis on human and animal infectious diseases and immunology.  The major will be expanded to begin offering additional courses focusing on applied and industrial microbiology.
