Position Description


Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a full-time Lecturer of Computer Science, to start in August 2024. This is a teaching-focused position, with an expectation of seven (7) courses per year. Successful candidates must be prepared to teach introductory programming and data structures courses. The ability to teach other lower-division courses, such as discrete math or programming for engineers, is desirable as well as upper-division and graduate-level courses in support of our Master of Science in Computer Science Program.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with a potentially renewable one (1) year contract. This is a non-tenure track position, with no expectations for research, scholarship, or advising. This position is on campus and is located at Pacific’s Stockton campus in the California Central Valley.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Interest in teaching introductory and/or lower-division computer science courses.
  • Experience teaching computer programming,
  • The ability to contribute to upper-division undergraduate courses and graduate courses in the MS Computer Science program.
  • Awareness, aptitude, and commitment to contribute towards Pacific’s mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience.
  • Experience and/or awareness towards Pacific’s goals surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard university classroom. Schedule is dependent on course and department needs.
Hiring Range $75,000 - $80,000 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
