Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences is an academic unit within the Lloyd College of Health, Science, and Technology, seeking to serve a diverse student body, including military and international students, through effective teaching, active scholarship, and service-learning activities. The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology with concentrations in prehealth, organismal biology, or molecular biology/biotechnology as well as a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Sciences. The Department offers a minor program in Biology and Biotechnology. The Department has more than four hundred enrolled undergraduate students and seventeen (17) tenured, tenure-track, or lecturer faculty members. The Department of Biological and Forensic Science mission is to provide high quality, student-centered academic programs, and courses in the sciences at the undergraduate level. In addition, the department provides each student with the opportunity to broaden his/her knowledge before deciding on a specific profession and being committed to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of Biological Sciences. Our diverse faculty prepares students through education, research, and outreach programs to become critical thinkers. Our highly qualified faculty are driven to prepare students for careers in government, industry, health-related professions, education, and to pursue further study in graduate or professional schools. Primary Purpose of the Position: The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences invites applicants for a lecturer or tenure track position as an Assistant of Forensic Sciences effective Fall 2024. The successful applicant will have a masters or doctorate in Forensic Science or a closely related field. Experience teaching forensic courses at an undergraduate/graduate university and/or community college will be a plus. The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in forensic science and general biology, develop and teach new courses in the Forensic Science Program, advise/mentor students, serve in department, college, university committees, and assist in building and maintaining professional relationships with local, regional, and national laboratories and law enforcement agencies. In addition, the candidate is expected to establish an active, externally funded research program in Forensic Science involving undergraduate students.
Description of Work Continued:
Teaching: (60%)
  • Teach a variety of undergraduate courses.
  • Teach classes in forensic science, introduction to biology, scientific writing/communication, and related disciplines that meet the standard FSU workload policy.
  • Contribute to curriculum development.


Research: (20%)

  • Conduct research, publish, and write grants.
  • Develop a robust research program involving collaboration with students and faculty.
  • Perform scholarly activities consistent with their rank.
  • Commit to maintaining a productive program of scholarship in forensic science.
  • Engage in research and training activities within professional societies and related.


Service: (20%)

  • Contribute to ongoing programmatic development within the Department of Biological and Forensic Science and the College of Health, Science, and Technology.
  • Serve as a mentor and/or student organization advisor for undergraduate students, guiding their professional and personal development as well as their academic progress.
  • Participate fully in FEPAC accreditation efforts.
  • Actively participate in departmental, college, university, community, and professional service consistent with the goals of the Department, College, and University.
  • Commitment to contribute to the strategic initiatives of the Department, College, and University.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
A Ph.D. degree and training or experience in Forensic Science are required for a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor in Forensic Science and/or a Master’s degree in Forensic Science or related biological sciences disciplines with training or expertise, a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of a lecturer or tenure-track Assistant Professor.
