Job Summary

The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Construction Management in the College of Engineering invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the level of level based on qualifications (Lecturer, Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice, or Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction) starting August 2024 for our program in Tyler, TX.

The Construction Management program moved to the College of Engineering in 2010. Since then, the department's enrollment has continued to grow along with the industry demand for our graduates and is offered on the main campus in Tyler, TX, as well as our satellite campus in Houston, TX. This position announcement is for a faculty member to reside on the main campus in Tyler, TX.

Essential Functions

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach courses in online, hybrid, and traditional modalities at the undergraduate level.
  • Contribute to the construction management program.
  • Actively engage in student mentoring and professional service, including mentoring students in their professional development.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in construction or project management, construction engineering, or civil engineering, or in a closely related field, such as architecture, design, or construction/materials science. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Construction or Civil Engineering are encouraged to apply. Doctoral candidates will be considered but must complete all the requirements for the Ph.D. degree by December 1, 2023.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, construction engineering, or civil engineering.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Applicants with backgrounds in construction and project management, structural and steel design, general and utility contracting, heavy civil construction, or consulting experience.
  • Priority consideration will be given to applicants who have obtained professional-level recognition, such as Licensed Professional Engineers, Certified Project Engineers, Certified Project Managers, Certified Professional Constructors, and Project Management Professionals.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
