Responsible for providing academic coaching support for students who are eligible for academic accommodations through the Office of Disability Support Services. The Learning Specialist will work with the Disability Support Services Team to determine appropriate accommodations and partners with faculty to ensure students have the support they need. This position is a Grade: 8-37.5 (based on 20 hours a week/10 months per year) with an approximate salary range of $18,960-$22,750 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.

1. Coaches students with disabilities
*Meets regularly with students to provide assistance on academic, time management, study skills and other issues; makes referral to appropriate support resources; monitors students' academic progress
*Consults with Assistant Dean of Students, Registrar, faculty, academic advisors, staff, parents and/or students on different learning strategies and appropriate accommodations
*Collaborates with parents, counselors and doctors to coordinate services
*Provides necessary support to include note-takers and related assistance, readers, sign language interpreters, electronic text and other assistive technology, as needed

2. Works with Assistant Dean of Students to review psycho-educational and medical documentation to assess the needs of and provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities
*Reviews psychoeducational reports, medical reports and other documentation to determine appropriate reasonable academic and other accommodations
*Contacts students and their families regarding appropriate documentation needed to receive accommodations
*Works with students and faculty to secure appropriate accommodations; addresses any related issues and/or questions

3. Supports the broader efforts of Disability Support Services (DSS) to provide comprehensive academic services to students with documented disabilities
*Proctors examinations for students with specialized needs and related academic accommodations
*Assists the Associate Director in the delivery of the Peer Mentoring Program
*Supports the strategic plan of Disability Support Services and Academic Life & Student Transitions (ALST) Unit

The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remote as deemed appropriate by their supervisor 

Qualifications

Master's Degree in Counseling, School Psychology or related field

One to three years of related work experience

Experience in academic counseling, coaching and advising 

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds and functions to coordinate services 

Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in carrying out responsibilities

You adapt well to a fast-paced environment, embrace change with much flexibility

Strong organizational, analytical & problem solving skills

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
