Job Summary/Description
This position works 40 hours per week and is a benefits-eligible position. This position also works for 9 months out of the year.
The Learning Resource Specialist’s primary responsibilities are to assist the Nursing Faculty when undergraduate nursing students are in clinical learning experiences within community facilities and within the Nursing Department’s Skills Lab and Simulation Center to include the preparation, delivery, and evaluation of student lab and simulation scenarios. This position also includes documentation of the above experiences to promote the effective use of the Simulation Center according to CCNE accreditation standards and the Texas Board of Nursing requirements.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
  • Assists in providing skill instruction, supervision and documentation of students during performance of learning activities in the Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Center.
  • Communicates Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Center resource information to faculty, staff, students and visitors.
  • Assists in maintenance of skills lab and simulation center equipment.
  • Conducts annual equipment inventory and prepares required reports.
  • Serves as a resource and support for faculty and students prior to (coordinating/scheduling rooms and equipment) and during their activities in the nursing skills lab and simulation center.
  • Assists nursing faculty in their supervision of students in direct care of patients/clients in a clinical setting.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • An ability to organize and complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
    • An ability to perform work requiring accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Knowledge of computer software applications relevant to simulator functions and experience with clinical skills and procedures.
    • Strong oral/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
    • Active/current in clinical practice; applicable to clinical education.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • An Associate of Applied Sciences in Nursing is required, BSN preferred.
    • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas (or able to obtain upon hire).
    • A minimum of five years full-time clinical experience as an Registered Nurse.
