Learning Center PLTL Leader

Job Summary:

Peer Led Team Learning (PLTL), offered in fall and spring, provides additional opportunity for Chemistry 111, 113, 230, 231 students to further engage in current course topics while earning course credit. PLTL teams meet weekly for two hours. Students, in teams of 8-10, work collaboratively to solve challenging chemistry problems and participate in additional activities closely aligned with the General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Syllabus.

Full Job Description:

Attend all scheduled PLTL sessions, meetings, and trainings and maintain contact with PLTL Staff/Faculty throughout the semester

  • Actively engage and participate in group discussions and activities
  • Notify PLTL Staff of conflicts as soon as possible

Lead one section of PLTL on a weekly basis

  • Spend up to one hour planning for each session
  • Consult with participants on problem sets assigned by Chemistry Department
  • Support participants in small groups to inspire academic self-confidence
  • Prepare engaging activities for each session
  • Guide participants to find solutions utilizing process-oriented approaches and collaborative learning techniques
  • Keep accurate records for all sessions
  • Empower participants to become independent, active learners by serving as a model student
  • Help participants reinforce knowledge and develop academic skills/strategies by offering tips for integrating “how to learn” with “what to learn”

Pay Rate:

Hourly

Salary Range :

19.25/hr
