As the lead production carpenter, you will manage over 100 production design students each quarter in the production shop in Crites Hall and other SCAD venues and will implement advanced carpentry and construction techniques as assigned by the production technical director. In this position responsibilities will include interpreting design schematics and planning appropriate fabrication techniques to realize them, demonstrating proper construction techniques and applications to students, and assisting department leaders in the installation and removal of all scenic and properties elements of productions.

Expectations for the lead production coordinator include the ability to assist the shop manager in developing and enforcing a safety training and certification program for students, maintaining all material inventories, managing shop equipment and tools, and ensuring students checkout equipment properly. You must always maintain a safe and secure work environment, enforcing OSHA and SCAD regulations. Additionally, you will aid in the loading, unloading, delivery, installation, and removal of all scenic properties and lighting elements for productions.

Minimum Qualifications:      

  • Bachelor's degree in theater technology or technical theater, or equivalent professional experience
  • Portfolio evidence of high-level carpentry proficiency for film, television, themed entertainment, or live event production
  • High level of experience with power tools and workforce safety protocol with knowledge of industry-standard practices in scenic construction

Preferred Qualifications:    

  • Computer Assisted Design (CAD) experience

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Valid Class “C” Georgia driver’s license or ability to obtain one
  • ETCP Rigging Certification
  • OSHA 10-hour certification preferred

Travel Required:  

  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
