Job Title: Lead Physician – Mental Health Transitional Living Homes

Job Summary:

The Colorado Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health has an opening for a half-time (0.5FTE) Faculty (unclassified)  

The Colorado Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health has established a new program to open Mental Health Transitional Living (MHTL) Homes to expand the continuum of care for individuals with serious mental illness and provide a transition from inpatient level of care to a less restrictive setting in the community. The focus is to provide continued support with social and life skills development, as well as assistance with other daily life activities based on a client’s individual needs, with a goal of reintegrating clients successfully in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the psychiatric supervision of up to 65 clients who reside in one of several state-run or contracted Mental Health Transitional Living Homes.
  • Provide continuity of care for psychiatric medication prescriptions for clients residing in the MHTL homes.
  • Responsible for responding to psychiatric crises and/or escalation of psychiatric symptoms for clients residing in the MHTL homes.
  • Meet with clients on a scheduled basis for treatment plan reviews/medication management appointments.
  • Oversee and renew court-ordered outpatient certifications for those clients requiring that higher degree of supervised care.
  • Responsible for making decisions and assisting with coordination regarding readmission to a higher level of care for these clients, when necessary. 
  • Provide direct supervision of a mid-level psychiatric provider who will also be providing treatment services to the clients in the MHTL Homes.
  • Collaborate as part of a treatment team that would include an intensive case manager, whose job will be focused on discharge and aftercare planning, and mental health clinicians who provide therapy services within the homes.
  • Attend required treatment team meetings to review the status of individuals within the program and provide input regarding readiness for discharge.
  • Assist administrative staff with monitoring admission referrals for medical appropriateness. Provide second-level review of difficult cases and serve as resource for the program director.
  • Work closely with the division director of the MHTL Homes program to help develop policies and procedures and collaborate regarding the overall functioning of the program.
  • Maintain active state medical license and DEA registration.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor or Senior Instructor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:  

The ranks are based on how many years a candidate has been licensed and if they want to pursue the promotions track.  

Instructor:

  • MD or DO Family Practice / Internal Medicine or other related specialty.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Medicine.  Must be licensed to practice Medicine in the State of Colorado
  • 2+ years of experience in working with individuals with Serious Mental Illness 

Senior Instructor:

  • MD or DO Family Practice / Internal Medicine or other related specialty.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Medicine.  Must be licensed to practice Medicine in the State of Colorado
  • 2+ years of experience in working with individuals with Serious Mental Illness

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in residential and community based settings
  • Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor: $105,000-$120,000 (1.0 FTE)

Senior Instructor: $105,000-$120,000 (1.0 FTE)

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
