Job Summary
Under leadership of Digitization Services Manager, coordinate digitization production, as well as student hiring, onboarding, and scheduling. Responsibilities include facilitating project implementation, intake and return of materials, documentation of processes and metadata input manuals, and follow through of established workflows.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate digitization project implementation for multiple collections at a time, responsibly handle rare materials and safeguard during transport to and from staff work site and during the digitization process, and ensure appropriate documentation of procedures for each project and follow through of established workflows.
  • Create and maintain metadata input manuals and templates, in collaboration with cross-departmental stakeholders.
  • Manage student employee hiring, onboarding, and scheduling for the unit.
  • Provide digitization production training for student employees, including but not limited to:
    • capturing, scanning and metadata description.
    • Lead quality control effort on basic metadata created by students as well as coordinate quality control for enhanced metadata to ensure timely bulk upload process completion.
    • Supervise multiple student employees directly.
  • Perform production activities to capture digital images, reformat analog materials to digital, and create descriptive metadata for those images to improve discoverability of unique resources.
  • Maintain organization of the digital images, following naming convention of folders and digital files.
  • Perform data cleanup for improved metadata quality.
  • Provide training and consultations as needed for library staff and patrons on digitization equipment and copyright issues.
  • Ensure performance of scanning equipment and software, assist with troubleshooting, report noted issues to library technology staff.
  • Adhere to the State of Texas and University’s assets management regulations and policies.
  • Pursue opportunities for professional development, including workshops, conferences, seminars, and specialized training classes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a related field with two (2) years of related experience or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of digitization workflows and processes.
  • Knowledge of metadata schemas, descriptive metadata, and terminology tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with project management with an emphasis on digital projects.
  • Experience with supervision, particularly of student employees.
  • Coding or programming capabilities to facilitate bulk uploading and/or data cleanup.
  • Experience with digital graphics applications such as Photoshop.

  • Computer literate and technologically adept.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel. Proficiency in Windows Operating System and file management.
