The Department of Psychiatry’s Division of Psychiatric Services Research is seeking a Lead Clinical Research Specialist to work within the Systems Evaluation Center located in Catonsville, MD . The Center conducts program evaluations, performs data analysis, and provides technical assistance and consultation to the Maryland Behavioral Health Administration. This position is responsible for assuming a lead role in coordinating evaluation activities and working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders. The preferred candidate will have advanced preparation in the research and evaluation of behavioral health services and experience in behavioral health care delivery, preferably within a public system or to underserved populations. This position may involve travel to meetings.

This is a full-time Regular position.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Lead evaluation of clinical research projects and related activities for the Maryland Public Behavioral Health System.
  • Design, develop, document, and implement research and evaluation procedures and protocols using a variety of complex activities.
  • Develop protocol manuals and data collection instruments and training materials.
  • Lead the development of project timelines, work plans, recruitment strategies, and progress through the duration of the clinical evaluation projects.
  • Assume lead role in the management and completion of data collection, data validation, data analysis, data interpretation, and report writing.
  • Prepare Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protocols and ensure compliance with protocols.
  • Collaborate with Maryland Public Behavioral Health System stakeholders, including state and local administrators, service providers, advocates, persons with lived experience, and/or their family members.
  • Contribute to the development of conference and meeting presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

  

Education: Bachelor's degree in scientific field of study related to the research of the clinic such as Sociology, Psychology, or related field. Doctoral or Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Five (5) years of clinical research experience including three (3) years in the relevant research specialization such as behavioral health.
Other: Master's degree in related field may be substituted for two (2) years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge regarding program evaluation and/ or research methods.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and serve as a resource in area of technical specialty.
  • Skill in statistical programming, interpretation and data analysis using statistical software such as SPSS as well as spreadsheet and database software applications.
  • Ability to network with and present information to key groups and individuals; ability to take scientific terminology and concepts and translate to lay persons in a meaningful way.


The hiring range for this position is in the low $70,000s to mid $80,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
