Position Overview
The Lead Academic Advisor provides support and education to elevate students’ learning experience at the University of Idaho. Similar to academic advisors, the Lead Academic Advisor fosters student success by building positive and professional student relationships and by implementing proactive strategies that help students fulfill their educational goals. The Lead Academic Advisor will also have content expertise in one or more college(s)/program(s) and will help students select courses and engage in opportunities consistent with their developing goals and interests. This position will also support students’ timely progress toward degree completion. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, providing information and clarification regarding university academic policies, creating rapport, and building academic advising relationships, and referring students to appropriate campus resources. The Lead Advisor will also serve a critical role in managing the day-to-day operations of an academic advising team. The Lead Advisor will be responsible for evaluating advisors in their assigned colleges and will work closely with the Director of University Advising Services to ensure advisors continue to meet Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), and Vandal Success and University policies, procedures, and expectations.
This position is expected to work collaboratively with university partners to ensure students have access to all campus support and enrichment opportunities.

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Two years experience providing academic advising to undergraduate students at a higher education institution
  • Experience leading or developing academic advisors in their daily work
  • Experience presenting information clearly and concisely to individuals, small and large groups
  • Experience interpreting and applying standards and regulations

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Required Other
  • Ability to obtain membership in NACADA
  • Willingness and ability to travel and to work selected evenings and weekends, with or without accommodations

Additional Preferred
Education:
  • Master’s Degree

Demonstrated experience:
  • Serving in an administrative role at an institution of higher education
  • Working successfully with diverse students and colleagues
  • Establishing and maintaining quality professional relationships
  • Serving in a supervisory capacity
  • Interacting with students, advisors, and faculty in respectful, intentional, and meaningful ways

Knowledge of:
  • University of Idaho academic rules and regulations for undergraduate level advising
  • Student development theory and advising best practices

Ability to:
  • Display strong organizational skills to successfully manage competing priorities
  • Work independently and take initiative with new and existing projects
  • Motivate, encourage, and support staff and students to recognize their potential and meet challenges
