Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Financial Analyst prepares financial reports, analyzes financial data for senior leadership, and serves as a policy and procedures expert for the Law School’s financial, business, and operational activities. The Financial Analyst is responsible for the financial sections of compliance reporting to the American Bar Association (ABA), US News and World Report, and university offices. The Financial Analyst serves as the School’s procurement officer and provides guidance, oversight, and expertise over business operations and financial transactions for the School, ensuring fiscal responsibility, alignment with School priorities, and compliance with all university and law school policies and procedures. The Analyst analyzes new projects and initiatives and assesses progress toward strategic goals and objectives by creating financial reports and dashboards.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong analytical skills and financial experience. A record of achievement in project management and data analytics, a high standard of professional integrity and ethics, an ability to articulate the School’s mission, vision, and values, and a commitment to diversity and equal opportunity. Experience developing and implementing plans.
Experience or knowledge of data analytics.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
The Financial Analyst must be a results-oriented individual with a strong sense of vision, creativity, and initiative who also demonstrates strong organizational skills. The analyst must have excellent communication skills, and strong analytical and data skills, Additionally, the Analyst must be able to manage multiple tasks in an organized and detail-oriented way and be a problem solver. The Analyst must also have strong interpersonal and customer service skills and work well with various constituencies, including faculty, staff, alumni, and students.
The Financial Analyst must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerBI, and Access and demonstrate proficiency in various database and statistical tools such as Tableau, SPSS, and/or SAS.
The Analyst must possess the ability to maintain the confidentiality of private or sensitive matters, have excellent judgment, and be able to perform tasks both quickly and precisely.
The Analyst must be proficient in PeopleSoft Finance (or have the ability to learn the application quickly) and have intermediate knowledge of accounting and finance. Ability to perform financial analysis and modeling, prepare financial statements, and analyze financial data. Ability to understand and interpret procurement code and legal contracts.

Serves as the Law School’s subject matter expert on procurement matters and contractual agreements. Works with departments to ensure School purchases and applications adhere to law school policy, University policies, and State procurement codes. Works with the purchasing department, the General Counsel’s Office, the Division of IT, the Communications department, and outside vendors to ensure compliance with all relevant codes and policies. Responsible for maintaining law school internal policies and policing policies.

Serves as an advisor to administrative staff to ensure financial and operational transactions are followed correctly, effectively, and within budget. Serves as the subject matter expert on business and financial applications. Develops and champions process improvements for business and financial matters in the school. Provides clarification and advice to law school constituencies on university and Foundation policies and procedures. Serves as an approver of financial transactions for the School. Prepares journal entries and transfer requests.
