Language Rehabilitation and Cognition Lab Research Assistant

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant as part of a 2-year NIH-funded research project in the Language Rehabilitation and Cognition Lab in the Pitt Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (https://lrcl.pitt.edu/). Research in the lab focuses on cognitive and psychosocial factors in aphasia recovery and the use of gamification and computer-based treatments in aphasia rehabilitation. The funded project seeks to develop and adapted form of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for stroke survivors with aphasia to improve pscyhological flexibility, communication success, and quality of life. The Research Assistant will work closely with the PI on a regular basis, but will also be required to work independently. The position involves a wide variety of responsibilities including participant recruitment, scheduling, administration of standardized assessments of language and psychosocial functioning, data management, participant reimbursement, and preparation of IRB and NIH documentation.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders, psychology, or a related field, with a relevant background (coursework or otherwise) in research methods, design, and testing. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, reliable, and energetic, with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. They must be able to work independently, juggle and prioritize multiple tasks, seek assistance when appropriate, be able to work with a diverse group of people, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Prior experience with Excel and Sharepoint are preferred.
Two years of experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience (e.g., BA major/minor in a relevant area, research assistant experience).
