Pending budgetary approval, The Less-Commonly-Taught-Languages Center in the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Linguistics seeks a non-tenure-stream Language Coordinator of Swedish at the rank of Visiting Instructor to design/teach a curriculum of 18 credits of Swedish at levels 1 through 8 in the undergraduate Swedish program. The initial appointment is for 9 months, August 15, 2024, through May 15, 2025, with renewal possible. Note that Fall Term classes start on August 26, 2024.  Classes are expected to be conducted in person but may be taught remotely if necessary.

The appointee will have primary responsibility for ensuring the success of the Swedish language program by creating curriculum materials, engaging in student advisement, and participating in Less-Commonly-Taught Language Center events and other activities that support the Swedish program. They will participate in required University, School, and Department training, and may also be asked to serve on department and university committees to further the academic mission of those units.

Minimum Requirements: 

-       A master’s degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Swedish Language Pedagogy, Linguistics, Foreign Language Pedagogy, or a related field;

-       Three (3) years of experience in teaching Swedish at the college level;

-       Demonstrated excellence in teaching as well as native or near-native proficiency in Swedish (speaking and writing) and a strong command of English;

-       Demonstrated experience with or knowledge of the culture of the Swedish-speaking world.
