The Opportunity:

Join our dynamic landscaping team committed to maintaining the safety, functionality, cleanliness, efficiency, and attractiveness of the university. As a Landscaper II, you will serve as a leader for Landscaper I, prioritizing work, ensuring proper plant/turf maintenance techniques, and contributing to landscape maintenance duties. This role involves training and coordinating the workload for assigned employees, fostering a culture of quality maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead assigned team members in landscape maintenance, utilizing appropriate equipment, hand tools, and materials.

  • Report pest problems, damaged plant material, equipment needs, and repairs per Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan.

  • Check and ensure designated landscape areas meet departmental standards, completing work within the scheduled time frame.

  • Oversee morning dispatch and afternoon return to the shop, ensuring teams are properly equipped and on task.

  • Prioritize and lead teamwork activities, acting as an Assistant Zone Manager for High-Performance Landscape Teams.

  • Maintain and clean campus grounds, including vegetation debris removal, raking, and trash removal.

  • Provide coaching, training, and quality checks on job assignments, standards, and customer service.

  • Schedule safety training for the team, ensuring employees work safely and receive necessary medical attention.

  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions; respond to emergencies and unforeseen situations.

  • Maintain and clean equipment, report equipment needs to the supervisor, and ensure unit processes are followed.

  • Perform special tasks such as hauling fill dirt/debris, landscape installations, tree work, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of 9th grade and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of applicable safety rules and regulations, including OSHA, Dept. of Health, and the Bureau of Fire Safety.

  • Basic communication skills in English in order to: Work effectively with customers; Operate and demonstrate the functions of the electronic equipment; Utilize telecommunication devices.

  • Basic computer skills, including email.

  • Ability to maintain landscapes to departmental standards and use landscaping hand-held tools and equipment.

  • Leadership skills to lead and prioritize teams under the supervisor's direction.

  • Basic plant identification, pruning techniques, and general IPM knowledge.

  • Proper maintenance of equipment: Cleaning, preserving finishes, checking fluid levels, and lubricating.

  • Ability to work in extreme environments and collaborate within a diverse team.

Health Assessment Required:  

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Position requires a valid driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
