Come join our exceptional Department of Neurobiology, and help lead the advancement of cutting-edge basic science research into explorations of the brain and central nervous system. In this Laboratory Assistant 2 role you’ll work in the nexus of neuroscience research at UCLA, and with guidance from the Principal Investigator will participate in the running of an NIH-funded laboratory, and manage a mouse colony. Responsibilities include: * Maintaining laboratory equipment and a clean and safe laboratory environment. * Maintaining a mouse colony and records in compliance with NIH guidelines and University regulations, as well as maintain protocol of the mouse colony with our UCLA Animal Research Committee. * Working as part of a team with other laboratory personnel. * Disposing of biohazardous chemical and biological waste in accordance with all University regulations. * Disposing of expired drugs and surgical supplies. * Maintaining colonies of various strains in the laboratories. * Collecting samples and submitting them for genotyping. * Perform euthanasia of mice as required, and maintain accurate/legible electronic records detailing status and health of mouse colonies in English. Required Qualifications: * At least six months of prior work experience with mice * Bachelor of Science in Biology, Neuroscience, Physiological Sciences, or equivalent * Skill in preparing documents and ability to maintain an electronic laboratory notebook with documentation * Ability to follow a laboratory protocol and proficiency in performing general lab maintenance * Knowledge of regulations for proper animal care and euthanasia * Knowledge of safety measures in handling and disposal of laboratory waste * Skill in organization and ability to work independently * Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English * Ability to work with Macintosh and PC operating systems, and proficiency with major software applications including Microsoft Office (MS Word, * Excel, PowerPoint), and e-mail.
