General Description of the Position

THIS POSITION IS 100% GRANT FUNDED

The Photonic Sensors Systems Laboratory and the Makerspace Laboratory at Delaware State University seeks a qualified candidate for the part-time laboratory technician position. The position involves basic and advanced management, maintenance, and operation of laboratory equipment, which includes optical and photonics instruments, printed circuit board (PCB) printer, 3D printers, etc.

Candidates with associate degree or bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or computer engineering with experience in electronics, hardware-software interfacing, and programing are encouraged to apply. Appointments will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal pending funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Conduct and manage Photonics Lasers research laboratory operations and maintenance of key equipment's including, lasers, wavemeters, PCB, 3D printers. 
  • Perform electronic circuit design and circuit prototyping using Eagle CAD and mechanical design using Mechanical CAD
  • Maintenance and operation of monarchical design instruments like 3D printers, design and develop electroincs and optomechanical components, software/hardware interfacing with knowledge of programming/simulation skills on at least a few platforms, including LABVIEW, MATLAB, CAD, Python, AutoCAD/Autodesk inventor, EAGLE CAD, etc. 
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, work with vendors and place orders when needed.
  • Conduct workshops for undergraduate students.
  • Knowledge of electronic and mechanical design software e.g., CAD, Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Eagle CAD, etc.
  • Basic electronic prototyping skills like soldering and circuit testing.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller programing is highly preferred but not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work and mentor undergraduate students

  • Qualification Standards

    Associates or bachelor’s degree in engineering or related fields.
