Salary Range: $68,266-$111,426

MU Health Care is seeking a Laboratory Services Supervisor to supervise the personnel and operational activities of a small to medium-sized diagnostic or research laboratory.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION 

  • Supervise and/or instruct the work of technical support personnel (including students) performing a variety of standard and specialized research or medical diagnostic tests.
  • Coordinate (or assist in the coordination of) quality control procedures for the laboratory, including record keeping/reporting and scheduling, as necessary.
  • Supervise the proper maintenance of laboratory, lab equipment, supplies, and handling/disposal of infectious materials and hazardous chemicals/materials.
  • Troubleshoot specialized and routine laboratory equipment and perform limited maintenance, as necessary.
  • Perform highly specialized or complex procedures in the laboratory as necessary and perform more routine tests as necessitated by personnel shortages.
  • Comply with all appropriate regulatory and accreditation requirements applicable to the laboratory environment being supervised.
  • Instruct and supervise students rotating through the laboratory.
  • Interview, hire, train, and evaluate (or assist) support staff.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.
  • Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes
  • May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents. 
 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 


  • Bachelor's degree in the biological or physical sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
  • Depending on the laboratory, a bachelor’s degree in medical technology or registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or an equivalent accreditation group (AMT, HEW/HHS) may be required to meet accreditation requirements. Where no specific requirement exists, one (1) additional year of technical experience will be added to experience requirement.
  • Three (3) years of technical experience in specified area in a hospital or similar laboratory setting. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 


Supervisory experience is preferred. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
