Job Summary:

Research Services Laboratory Science Professional will join Basic and Translational Urology team in the Division of Urology, Department of Surgery on Anschutz Medical Campus.  Basic and Translational Urology Program studies the mechanisms of chronic pelvic pain, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, overactive bladder and bladder pain syndrome. Research in the lab utilizes state-of-the-art technologies, including excitability of bladder sensory and motor neurons, in vitro contractility studies, pharmacogenetics, urodynamic assessment of bladder function, flow cytometry, transcriptomic and proteomic approaches. The incumbent will perform animal experiments focused on the molecular mechanisms of neurogenic bladder dysfunction a mouse model of coronavirus-induced multiple sclerosis; learn a novel in vivo pharmacological approach using DREADDs for silencing bladder nociceptive neurons; perform experiments involving nucleic acid and protein isolation, RT-PCR and qPCR, Western blotting; and prepare data for presentations and publications. The Laboratory Science Professional will work collaboratively with junior and senior investigators in the team, as well as with research assistants and associates in the Division. The candidate will have the opportunity to work independently and propose studies that complement ongoing and expand upon projects in the lab. The candidate should have some knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and methods and should be able to work with live animals (mice). 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out rodent-based research projects under supervision of senior laboratory personnel
  • Perform rodent survival surgeries
  • Conduct cell biology, immunology, and biochemical studies examining gene and protein expression
  • Perform in vitro contractility studies, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence microscopy studies
  • Present results at lab meetings and at research conferences
  • Perform all research compliance activities required by the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO

Qualifications:

Entry Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis

Intermediate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • One (1) years professional level research experience

Senior Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis
  • Two (2) years professional level research experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Entry Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab

Intermediate Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Senior Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (all levels):

  • Basic to advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as

Entry: $42,088-$53,536

Intermediate: $45,801-$58,259

Senior: $49,515-$62,983

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
