Job Summary:

This is an Open Rank Laboratory Science position that will support the laboratory of Jessica Nelson at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. 

The lab professional will contribute to basic science research relating to neuronal development, function, and plasticity using the larval zebrafish model system. The lab professional will learn and employ molecular-genetic, cell biological, and behavior analysis techniques and will be a member of the Dept. of Cell & Developmental Biology. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Behavioral assays and subsequent analysis.
  • Immunostaining experiments.
  • Confocal microscopy experiments.
  • Plasmid design and molecular cloning.
  • PCR genotyping and genotyping assay design.
  • Generating transgenic and/or CRISPR mutant zebrafish lines.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • Substitution : A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • Substitution : A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) year professional-level research experience.

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • Substitution : A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years of professional-level research experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • One (1) to (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
  • Experience with animal models.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures.
  • Basic neurobiology knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Molecular biology skills.
  • Understanding of basic genetics.
  • Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as:

Entry Level: $45,000 - $57,240

Intermediate Level: $48,970 - $62,290

Senior Level: $52,941 - $67,341

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
