Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the organizational unit is to characterize neurophysiological changes in specific brain regions and circuits that are involved in the acute and chronic responses to drugs of abuse and associated dysfunctional behavioral states. For example, the unit has been heavily involved in the study of amygdala microcircuits in the context of alcohol exposure and changes in inhibitory signaling and excitability in genetically-defined neuronal populations that contribute to the pathophysiology of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). The efforts of the unit include basic research approaches in electrophysiological recording of neuronal activity, including immunohistochemical and imaging techniques to identify anatomical distribution and projection targets of specific cell populations; and in vivo and ex vivo studies in mouse and rat models of drug exposure.

Position Summary
The primary purpose of the position is to assist the PI and support assays as required to meet the objectives of the organizational unit. This requires that the employee provide support for laboratory operations, including tissue processing and organization, preparing buffers and media/supplements/reagents, and obtaining all necessary supplies to carry out experiments performed in the laboratory. Associated duties include maintaining extensive and detailed written and computerized records of laboratory procedures, and animal colony inventory, care and management. Computer skills include familiarity with word processing and spread sheet software packages. A large component of this position is general laboratory management and support including participation in ordering and record keeping, compliance with health & safety procedures and technical assistance for functional experiments. The position entails extensive interpersonal interactions with other members of the laboratory including students, postdocs, technicians and collaborators to ensure effective transfer of results.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Applicant must have knowledge/experience in the following: general lab maintenance, animal colony maintenance, rodent handling and behavior, microscope imaging, stereotaxic surgery, viral injection, rodent perfusion, and behavioral modeling. Must also be familiar with Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or Prism preferred.
