University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Laboratory Research Assistant to join the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. The Department of Microbiology & Immunology serves as the academic home for basic scientists in the area of microbiology, immunology and infectious diseases at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), with the majority of such investigators holding either primary or secondary academic appointments in this department.

PRIMARY DUTIES:  

  • Perform laboratory research activities, including animal handling, mouse genotyping, tick studies, rehousing ticks, etc.
  • Assist researchers in ongoing experiments including molecular biology, biochemistry
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: general housekeeping, ELISA assays, preparing solutions, media, stains, and buffers; cultures and specimens; executing biochemical procedures such as: electrophoresis, blotting, and DNA/RNA extractions, etc.
  • May perform laboratory research activities such as: microscopy techniques, imaging techniques, recombinant DNA techniques, protein purification, and hybridizations, etc.
  • Compile and may analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications.
  • Assist with literature research, editing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

  

MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors in Biology, Chemistry or in a field of study related to the research of the laboratory.

May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.
May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.

Hiring Range: $45,000 - $50,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)
