Lab Operations Analyst to function as a key staff scientist in small animal imaging core (SAIC) laboratory; This individual will be responsible for the design, coordination, analysis, and scientific reporting of results for small animal imaging studies; Meeting with investigators and directing them to the appropriate imaging modality and scientific approach for a particular research project; Training investigators, post-doctoral fellows, and students, on the appropriate use and operation of the imaging equipment in SAIC (i.e., Vevo ultrasound, IVIS BLI/Fl system, the SARRP radiation system, microCT, and microMRI) as well as  supporting the EchoMRI, RS2000 and GammaCell irradiators; They will need to be able to design and implement new experimental protocols and procedures as needed by investigators and to expand the overall capabilities of the facility; Developing and validating new methods for data analyses. They will also be responsible for aiding researchers in the interpretation of their imaging data, assisting them in their preparation of their manuscripts, as well as preparing scientific reports for investigators. They will be required to evaluate new imaging technologies and processes that become available for use in the facility and be able to critically review the imaging literature for potentially useful image acquisition and analyses techniques. Specific skills include experience in animal handling, anesthesia, radioactive agent administration, and knowledge of how to use a variety of image analysis software packages (i.e., ImageJ, ITK-SNAP).

Additionally, they will be required to help maintain and calibrate all SAIC equipment in the laboratory; participate in overall operation of the laboratory; and assist in maintaining compliance with protocols and procedures as designated by EHS and ULAR; They will assist in the preparation of billing and documentation of facility usage; maintaining logs and calibrations of imaging equipment; maintaining software upgrades and hardware installations; and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirements

A bachelor's degree in engineering/biology/physics/veterinary medicine or an equivalent combination of education is required.

Required Qualifications

2 years' experience in ability to work as a part of a team and communicate with management in a demanding scientific environment.

Ability to keep accurate computer records and maintain/update data in computer-based applications/databases.

Willingness to work with small animal (as mice and rats) handling, i.v., i.p. & s.c. injections, monitoring of basic biological functions & performing euthanasia.

Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for animal facilities and the basic requirements for maintaining laboratory animals and performing scientific procedures involving animal testing and data collection is desired.

Experience in imaging or radiation techniques is desired.
