Position Information
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Technology invites applicants to apply for a full-time, exempt position with benefits. The position will report to the Department Chair. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for computer hardware, software, networking, and general electrical engineering technology issues within the lab.
  • Manage shipping and handling equipment for online laboratory courses.
  • Install well-functioning LAN/WAN and other networks and manage components (servers, IPs etc.)
  • Provides supervision/assistance for the general safety, security, and arrangement of the laboratory area.
  • Manage and maintain computer lab equipment and software.
  • Perform regular upgrades to ensure systems remain updated.
  • Maintains and inventories computers, software, printers, equipment, materials, and supplies. Disposes of surplus equipment and software in accordance with established procedures.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment and maintains contact with appropriate vendors to coordinate repairs.
  • Research equipment needs and orders materials and supplies as necessary.
  • Keep records of repairs and fixes for future reference.
  • Works with students individually and in groups to provide direct assistance in accessing computer technology; orients students to the laboratory and helps students learn to use specific software and hardware.
  • Develops and maintains instructions for the use of specific software/hardware.
  • Provides information relating to the computer laboratories to students, staff, and instructors.
  • Supervise computer lab usage and ensure it is appropriately utilized.
  • Train faculty and staff on how to properly use lab equipment and software to aid in classroom instruction or research setup.

  • Work closely with the University IT department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Department Chair.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Engineering/Technology. 
  • At least two years of relevant experience in computer systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, instrumentation, computers, computer networks, and laboratory equipment. 
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining equipment inventories and maintenance schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Desire and ability to work closely with faculty, instructional staff, and students in a customer support role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work proactively with minimal supervision.
