GW’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Tropical Medicine (MITM) conducts innovative, fundamental, basic and translational research for HIV/AIDS and neglected tropical diseases. MITM has a strong tradition of training and policy advocacy for these infectious and parasitic diseases, which initiate and perpetuate poverty and suffering worldwide. The primary purpose of this entry level position is to provide routine assistance to faculty, students and department research staff that are carrying out experiments and tests in the department laboratories. This position manages access to the MITM lab spaces, manages lab coat contracts, assists with dry ice orders, submits facilities fix-it requests, manages facilities work in the lab, and manages the departmental seminar series and events. This position will be based in the MITM Departmental Office.
Duties include:
  • Help with facilities requests for the lab and manage lab coat contracts. Manage the dry ice order for the lab.
  • Organize MITM seminars / research updates to showcase new research to lab members as well as other sponsored events. Assist with departmental retreat.
  • Manage onboarding / offboarding for new research staff to include access to the research space
  • Handle access for lab shared equipment.
  • Manage department office fedex account and supply orders
  • General office coverage to include answering phones, sorting mail, managing packages

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

  • Experience with event planning desired.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Team player who is highly motivated.
  • Previous experience in higher education.
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
