Lab Technician I, Animal

Provides care for research animals such as mice, rats and frogs in an AAALAC accredited facility, assists in the operation and administration of the Laboratory’s animal facility.

Must show proficiency and be available to perform all duties described for the Cage Washer.
 
Examine animals for signs of illness and treat them according to instructions. Transfer animal between cages and tanks.  
 
Monitors controls that regulate temperature and humidity of animals’ quarters
 
Records information according to instructions such as genealogy, diet, weight, medications and food intake.
 
Provides general animal nursing and laboratory assistance to scientific staff and the animal Facility Manager.
 
Feeds, waters, and cares for research animals at the animal care facility according to schedules
 
Assists the Animal Facility Supervisors in transgenic rodent colony management, including modified barrier housing, colony health management, and maintenance of mouse lines.
 
Provides pre and post operative care to animals, maintains animal health records, and minor animal health treatments as needed.
 
Occasion Weekend/holiday work may be required

• EDUCATION: An Associates degree in a scientific discipline 
• EXPERIENCE: six months of relevant work experience is preferred but not required.
• OTHER:  ALAT certification is preferred but not required.     A valid driver’s license is required.

The salary range for this role is $35,000 – $52,000.   The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
