Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the PI, will be responsible for the management of a scientific research program impacting the overall success of a multi-campus, interdepartmental, global health malaria research project operating at UC Davis and at our field site in Africa, the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe (STP). Directly assist and support the PI in coordinating the scientific research at the Vector Genetics Laboratory and will work directly with individual post-doctoral researchers and staff in ensuring the timely completion of individual components of the research agenda.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

• Master’s degree in biology or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of experience managing a laboratory, including operations, budget management, safety procedures, and equipment maintenance.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in respectfully managing and training staff including assessing skills, conducting performance reviews, delegating responsibilities, and maintaining a congenial and effective work environment.
• Proficiency in a wide range of laboratory techniques and equipment operation and experience performing standard molecular techniques including DNA extraction, PCR, and library preparation.
• Proficiency and experience managing extensive data sets, including a high level of proficiency using Excel.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

• Demonstrated organizational skills relating to laboratory samples, data, protocols, and physical space
• Effective writing, communication, and presentation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:  

• Proficiency and experience using a LIMS system.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

• Advanced understanding of vector-borne diseases.
• Advanced understanding of molecular biology techniques.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and campus regulations to ensure laboratory function in compliance with BSL2 requirements.
