Posting Summary | This position will serve as laboratory technician in the Thali laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Primary duties will be: (i) conduct scientific experiments and (ii) to provide general laboratory support. The research activities will include cell and tissue culture-related methods, molecular and cellular biology techniques including primary human cell isolation, imaging. Upon appropriate training, the laboratory technician will also participate in experiments that involve work with live virus-infected cells within the BSL2+ laboratory. While the supervisors, which include the PI, M. Thali, and the Faculty Scientist, M Symeonides, will set the research goals, guide the research, and meet regularly with the technician to discuss data, it is expected that after a training period, the technician will plan and conduct day-to-day experiments independently. General lab support will include preparation of solutions, ordering and inventory of supplies, routine maintenance, and personnel training. |
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) | Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field required. Based on specific job functions, required years of experience may range from classroom laboratory experience to three years’ related experience. |
Desirable Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or related field and minimum three years of prior research laboratory experience. Experience working with human specimens and general molecular biology, virology and microbiology techniques, including cell culture. Excellent math skills, computer skills, organization and record-keeping mandatory. Ability to function independently. In all domains, must be able to prioritize tasks, develop and maintain reasonable schedules for completion of work, and provide routine communication with supervisors regarding progress and scheduling. Anticipated Pay Range | $20.15/hr to $22.60/hr |
