Posting Summary | This position will serve as primary laboratory technician, lab manager, and safety officer for a research laboratory in the Vaccine Testing Center and Translational Global Infectious Diseases Research Center in the Departments of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and Pediatrics. Provide operational oversight and perform complex laboratory and technical functions in support of a biomedical research program on the human immune response to infection and vaccination. A major function of position is the development and optimization of new assays and techniques. Perform in-depth functional and clonal analysis of the human immune response to infection or vaccination. Functionally supervise, train, and manage other laboratory staff and students. Oversee the laboratory’s daily activities including laboratory assays, data review, storage and analysis. Maintain equipment, supply, and key reagent. Present and publish laboratory research findings. Experimental design, complex data interpretation, and presentations are all important functions of the position. Research and technical functions of the position require being able to work independently, with the ability to communicate facility operation details and progress on grant initiatives with the Principal Investigator. |
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) | Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry or related field and four to five years prior research laboratory experience. Experience working with human specimens (preferably from clinical trials) and general molecular biology and virology techniques, including cell culture, preferred. Excellent math skills, computer skills, organization and record-keeping mandatory. Trained in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or the ability to obtain. Ability to function independently. Prior experience and skills or willingness to acquire basic skills in data management and bioinformatics is desirable. In all domains, must be able to prioritize tasks, develop and maintain reasonable schedules for completion of work, and provide routine communication with supervisor regarding progress and scheduling. |
