Job Summary
This position is within the UC Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Neurology, Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) and will manage the UC Davis ADRC Biomarker and Repository Core laboratory. The ADRC is dedicated to advancing the science of healthy brain aging. The ADRC is one of only 33 research centers nationwide designated by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Institute on Aging and is a leader in diverse population research of Alzheimer's disease. The ADRC fosters groundbreaking research to understand the basic mechanisms of how the brain develops and ages. We seek to answer a fundamental question - why some people develop dementia as they age and why others do not. Bringing together neuroscientists, engineers, and clinicians, the ADRC fosters communication and collaboration to accelerate discovery and develop new technologies and treatments. The ADRC is the national leader in research on Alzheimer's and healthy brain aging among diverse populations. Through clinical trials, clinical evaluations, community outreach, and education in Sacramento and the Bay Area, our goal is to prevent and cure Alzheimer's and dementia.
Incumbent is the Laboratory Supervisor 2 for the ADRC Biomarker and Repository Core and directs the work of a large and complex laboratory, including oversight of technical staff and graduate students, takes charge of the development and execution of multi- disciplinary projects in collaboration with academic supervisors. Incumbent supports goals of the ADRC by application of advanced methods of specimen control, laboratory facility management, laboratory workforce management, equipment management and data quality management to optimize specimen and data integrity for faculty research. At all times ensuring that specimens and studies are monitored throughout their conduct and reporting is maintained for compliance.
Incumbent consults with academic or professional researchers on the nature and overall objectives to be achieved, advising them on the more difficult and problematic areas they may encounter and suggests solutions; contributes original/innovative ideas of judgment and discretion, initiative, and resourcefulness in making decisions about laboratory operations.
This position is integral to current and future grant and program project funding and to the success of the ADRC to prevent and cure Alzheimer's and dementia.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.

  • Master's degree in human biology or related field
  • Extensive track record in project management and a strong background, minimum five (5) years, in human biological specimen handling experience.
  • Experience generating and analyzing project timelines, resources, and budget information.
  • Experience with technical documentation for acceptance by regulatory and Federal Agencies.
  • Extensive experience in operating under compliant procedures and methods
  • Experience in project management, with excellent research and data skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. Biology or related field
  • Ability to work independently, with emphasis on the ability to write and closely follow SOPs.
  • Ability to learn and follow lab safety procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience organizing data, keeping careful records and notebooks.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer applications, particularly databases is essential.
  • Additional proficiency with: Electronic communication, Statistical software packages, Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel), Endnote, On-line information (Internet search engines), Literature services (Pubmed, etc.), Word processing and graphics programs (i.e. Word)
  • Strong organizational, planning and communication skills.
  • Experience managing several disparate projects simultaneously while meeting individual project timelines.
  • Self-direction in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and ability to pay close attention to details.
  • Ability to maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly both orally and in writing to academic and lay audiences.
  • Proven ability to update collaborators with project details.
  • Excellent writing skills and previous experience in writing manuscripts, abstracts, and/or grant proposals.
  • Cultural sensitivity with regard to minority ethnic groups as well as foreign study populations and collaborators.
  • Experience interacting with professionals in multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to manage laboratory situations.

The mission of the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Research Center is to advance the understanding of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias through comprehensive patient evaluations and cutting-edge research.
The UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Research Center conducts basic and clinical research including clinical trials, clinical evaluations, community outreach and education, professional education, and research training.
