Position Summary

Under general supervision, manages multiple laboratories across the department. The Lab Manager supervises staff, and student employees. Responsible for OSHA and regulatory compliance, equipment inventory, and maintaining supplies in order to develop and implement new educational technologies in order to further enhance the educational experience of students.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages the lab budget, equipment and supplies, to foster an effective learning environment and meet educational requirements.
  • Coordinates with outside departments pertaining to the development of new facilities and the renovation of existing facilities, resolves minor issues relating to construction of new facilities or renovation of existing facilities.
  • Authorizes purchases needed to successfully run the lab; determines new lab equipment acquisition.
  • Develops community outreach policies and initiatives, and facilitates plans for labs and classrooms.
  • Assigns tasks to subordinates.
  • Designs and implements laboratory policies and procedures.to ensure a safe laboratory environment for faculty, staff, students, and authorized visitors.
  • Ensures staff and students complete mandatory trainings and maintains appropriate documentation of trainings.
  • Ensures protective gear is available and used and lab protocols are posted and followed. Responsible for ensuring lab safety audits are conducted on a regular basis and there is documentation to support record of audits.
  • Designs and implements new educational systems to further enhance the educational experience of students.
  • Provides consultation and recommendations to staff and faculty regarding lab equipment, supplies, and technology issues.
  • Serves as a Laboratory consultant to the community promoting CNM’s Laboratories.
  • Develops and implements strategies related to community outreach and public advertisement.
  • Presents and communicates demonstrations to community visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of related experience

OR

  • Associate's degree and five (5) years of related experience

OR

  • High School Diploma and seven (7) years of related experience

A combination of education and experience may be substituted for requirements of the position

  • Must show completion (within one year) of the following OSHA Training Courses: Blood Borne Pathogens; Hazard Communications; Slips, Trips & Falls; Laboratory Safety; Lock Out Tag Out; Personal Protective Equipment; Chemical Hygiene, and other OSHA/Safety related courses as identified by CNM.
  • Must be able to driver/operate CNM official vehicles.

Preferences:

  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Experience in procurement
  • Experience with inventory control
  • One (1) year supervisory experience
