The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Lab Coordinator on the Dahlonega campus. The main responsibility is to prep labs for introductory biology, environmental science, human anatomy and physiology and principles of biology courses, plus other biology courses as needed. The Coordinator is also responsible for supervising student laboratory assistants in the microbiology laboratory and assisting the microbiology instructor in laboratory instruction. Further, the coordinator inventories biology supplies and organizes the ordering of replacement items. Responsible for lab preparedness and maintenance of an orderly and clean environment. This is a twelve-month position requiring 40 hours each week. Schedule will be flexible and developed according to lab needs and prep times.

  • Prep labs for Biology courses, as listed above.
  • Train and supervise student lab assistants in microbiology lab prep.
  • Coordinate ordering of necessary laboratory supplies.
  • Check labs for preparedness on a daily basis and maintain an orderly and clean laboratory environment.
  • Conduct inventory of biology equipment and supplies.
  • Implement safe storage of lab materials and coordinate with the UNG hazmat specialist to ensure proper disposal of waste.
  • Basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinate obtaining vendor quotes for needed equipment.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Ability to organize and sort large amounts of information in computer databases.
  • Knowledge of introductory biology and microbiology.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology required.
  • Experience in general biology laboratory prep and maintenance.
