Department Description

Department Purpose

Our lab focuses on pollinator ecology in agricultural ecosystems, and we are working on a project examining the impacts of floral resource quality and pesticide exposure on bees in California.

Job Summary

Under supervision, this position will assist with research examining the impacts of heatwaves on bees in California. Duties are primarily focused on monitoring bee development and performance in the laboratory. This position will be based in Davis, CA.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS          

  • Sit using a microscope for long periods of time.
  • Work on uneven ground with cultivated areas. 
  • Must be able to get into and out of cages, with some manipulation of blocks and plants.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:

 

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Experience performing independent work after training.

 

  • Introductory coursework in sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry, etc.)

 

Preferred:

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Prior experience with living insects, invertebrates or other small animals in lab/ field.

 

  • Experience in sound laboratory practices including attention to detail, data collection, and electronic data entry.

 

  • Familiarity and past experience with microscopy.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Ability to carry out sustained work using a microscope for ~4 hours per day.
