Department Summary
The Digital Libraries Division leads efforts to develop innovative digital services and collections in collaboration with scholars, UNT departments, partner institutions, and other external stakeholders. We have established premier infrastructure to support the scholarly and research endeavors of our faculty, staff, and students. Position Overview
The University of North Texas Libraries Digital Libraries Unit is seeking a K-12 Texas History Curriculum Specialist for a unique opportunity to develop curriculum materials for the website Texas History for Teachers (TX4T) for both 4th and 7th grade social studies. This is a grant-funded position for 12 months, with the possibility to continue another year or possibly two if sufficient funds become available to support the position. This is a remote position with occasional office meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five years of closely related professional experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•        Extensive knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
•        Extensive knowledge of Texas rules and regulations related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
•        In depth knowledge of learning outcomes. 
•        Requires knowledge of best practices in assessment as it pertains to higher education and institutional effectiveness including the creation of outcomes, assessment methods and instruments, as well as data analysis, and utilization of reporting results.
•        Ability to plan and conceptualize and make sound business decisions.
•        Must exercise considerable independent and professional judgment in matters of significance.
•        Strong presentation, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
•        Strong planning and project management skills.
•        Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
•        Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
•        Ability to work independently.
•        Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
•        Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment   
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Masters degree
  • Experience working with archives or Special Collections
  • Experience performing archival research and/or in-depth historical research.
  • Rich knowledge of Texas history
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish

Job Duties


o
Communicates project priorities, opportunities and procedures to the project Co-Directors and the Pedagogical Advisory Board.
o
Develops, promotes and supports a curriculum that helps each child develop a sense of self-worth and critical thinking skills according to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for the subject area.
o
Monitors instructional processes to verify that project activities are keyed to producing desired project outcomes and recognition of project’s success.
o
Evaluates and recommends improvement in the purposes, design, materials and implementation of the instructional and other support projects.
o
Employs effective interpersonal skills.
o
Focuses specific subject area curriculum toward accomplishing the project’s mission and goals.
o
Provides sessions concerning the project and teaching and learning process through conferencing and staff development sessions as opportunities arise. This position will be attending and presenting at the Texas Council for the Social Studies, and possibly others.
o
Secures consultants, specialists, materials and other resources to assist in meeting project goals.
o
Implements and monitors policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules and the local board policies in the area of specialization.
o
Reports to the Co-Directors of TX4T on the status of performance related to responsibilities.
o
Contributes to the development of budgets by submitting cost estimates based upon documented project needs.
o
Takes the initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
o
Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
o
Follows all rules, regulations and policies of UNT and follow directives from superiors.
o
Performs other functions that may be assigned by the supervisors.
o
Communicates project curriculum, instructional practices, accomplishments, goals and new directions both to Co-Directors and at outreach activities such as TCSS.
o
Assures that all curriculum materials meet accessibility standards for online access.
o
Coordinates with UNT staff on research for curriculum topics, upload of material for new Units and their associated curriculum.
