Position Title Junior Accountant

Position Summary
The Junior Accountant is responsible for performing routine accounting and analytical work requiring professional knowledge of the theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, analyzing accounting records and financial transactions, and generating and monitoring financial reports. Position also assists accountants in the preparation and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations and reports. The Junior Accountant reports to the Grants Accounting Manager.

Job Duty Name Restricted Funds
Description of Job Duties
  • Monitor and analyze restricted scholarship and other fund accounts.
  • Review and approve related transactions (revenue and expenditures).
  • Perform restricted account administration by establishing fund records, policies and procedures, and timetables.
  • Reconcile development records to the university financial statements.
  • Maintain University Pledge schedule.
  • Prepare Net Asset Classification schedules.
  • Work closely with budget managers to establish budgets and handle procedural matters.
  • Maintain communication with budget managers to ensure account accuracy.
  • Assist in the reconciliations of accounts.
  • Assist in maintaining files, reports, invoices and other supporting documentation as deemed necessary.
  • Assist in coordination of training opportunities to the UIW community.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Job Duty Name Policies and Procedures & Reporting
Description of Job Duties
  • Abide by university financial policies and procedures, donor requirements, and agency regulations.
  • Assist in the dissemination of policies and procedures established by the university.
  • Assist the accountants in monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
  • Perform cost analysis and create statistical reports and data.

  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation for annual audits.
  • Reconcile development records to the university financial statements.
  • Respond to audit inquiries accurately and in a timely manner.

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications: databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems; ability to apply accounting principles and practices to non-profit/ governmental accounting.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial documents and reports.
  • Ability to prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, and analyses.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and use rational judgment in making work-related decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, community, and general public.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
Required Work Experience
No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of non-profit/governmental accounting and budgeting.
  • Proficiency in computer system applications.

Work Hours
Mon thru Fri 8am to 5pm with extended hours as needed to meet departmental goals.
